If you want to sell your house but it’s the middle of the holiday season, like so many other owners, you might be wondering if you should sell now or wait until the weather starts to warm up.
In this blog post, we’re sharing 4 disadvantages of selling a house during the holiday season, which applies to sellers anywhere in the Baltimore area and other areas in Maryland…
There are many theories about when the best time to sell your house might be. In most cases, spring is thought to be the best time, summer and fall are second best, and winter is often the least ideal time to sell a house… with the holiday season being the most difficult time to sell.
4 Disadvantages Of Selling A House During The Holiday Season
#1. Selling during the holidays can… disrupt your own holiday plans
The holidays are often when you might have your friends and extended family over for dinner or to stay for an extended visit. This is also a time you are more likely to want to enjoy a nice quiet evening in with your family, drinking hot chocolate and watching a classic holiday movie on TV. However, if a buyer wants to view at your home, you certainly don’t want to miss out on a potential sale, so what choice do you have but to pack everything up and leave while the agent shows your house?
#2. Selling during the holidays can be… messy
Maryland is known for having unpredictable and often awful weather during the winter months. This quickly translates into extra mess in your house in the form of snow, ice, salt, mud, and dirt being brought into your house from the bottoms of potential buyers’ shoes. Who ever wants extra mess to clean up? Especially, when your house needs to be kept spotless.
#3. Selling during the holidays can be… cold
When buyers walk through your house, they don’t care about your heating bill – so they wander inside and outside, leaving the doors wide open, even opening up the windows… and you pay for it all. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do about that except hurry back home after a showing!
#4. Selling during the holidays can… cause delays
You want to sell your house. You probably prefer to sell quickly too. However, all of those potential buyers are on their own timetable and don’t care so much about yours. In other words, they may expect you to disrupt your own plans for holiday dinners and events, but they might not wish to disrupt their own plans to make a decision during the holidays. And even if they do, they may not be able to get financing from their bank if their bank shuts down several days between December 24th and January 1st.
These are just 4 disadvantages of selling a house during the holiday season… but there are, in fact, many, MANY more. You can sell your house in Maryland during the holiday season but it’s just often not very convenient or very fast.
Fortunately, there is another way to sell and that’s how we can help…
